Chamois Fly |
|
Hook: | TMC 2457 or 3672 #16-20 |
Thread: | Black 6/0 |
Body: | Strip of natural chamois |
Head: | 3 or 4 wraps of small peacock herl |
Tying Instructions 1.The first step in this fly is to cut the chamois into narrow strips about 1/8" wide. I use a razor blade and a steel straight edge to accomplish this. 2.After cutting several strips, let them soak in a dish of cold water. If the strips aren't wet when you tie the fly they will break 7 times out 10. 3.Tie the strip in at the bend and wrap forward. Tie off and trim the chamois then tie in 1 small peacock herl. Take 3 or 4 turns around the hook shank, secure with 2 to 3 wraps of thread, whip finish and you're done. When wet, the natural chamois will turn a faint orange shade that is quite similar to a caddis larvae.
