Tying Instructions

.Wrap thread length of hook shank and back then wrap with lead wire approximatel3/4 length of hook shank over wrap with tying thread and flatten with pliers.

.Cut a pair of turkey biot feathers and tie them in just behind the hook eye one on each side and angled out about 30 degrees. Repeat this process but tie them in at the hook bend. You now have antennae and tails.

.Cut a 5-6” piece of Swannundaze and tie in at bend. If you cut an angle at the end of the ribbing you won’t leave a bulge when you wrap the rib.

.Mix the dubbing using a blender or coffee grinder. Twist the dubbing into a thick rope and wind it to mid-way up the shank.

.Wrap the rib forward in even almost touching turns, tie off, and trim the excess.

.Cut three sections of mottled turkey tail about 3/16 to ¼ inch wide. Spray the sections with a fixative and allow to dry. I spray an entire feather and then it’s ready to use when I’m tying this pattern.

.Cut a notch into the thick end of the pieces by folding in half and cutting at an angle.

.Tie in the first segment at the end of the abdomen. Wrap a thick turn or two of dubbing and tie in the second piece. Repeat for the third.

.Take a final turn or two of the dubbing to cover the tie in point of the final wing case segment forming a head. Whip finish behind the antennae.

.As a final step, remove the fly from the vise and use your hands to bend the fly slightly in the middle.

Note: Cutting and folding the wing cases is the slowest part of the process. I cut enough before hand to tie a dozen flies.
