This has become my go-to fly for winter steelhead. There is something about the fluorescent chartreuse and pink combination that works very well on winter steelhead. |
Tying Instructions 1.Attach thread 3/16' back from the eye of the hook and tie in marabou tail. Starting the tail at this point avoids build up at hook bend. If you're going to weight the fly, add the lead wire at this point and coat it with head cement. 2.Tie in fluorescent chartreuse chenille and wrap chenille forward 2-3 wraps, tie off and trim, 3.Tie in saddle hackle and fluorescent pink chenille and wrap chenille forward to just in front of lead wire, tie off and trim. Spiral 4-5 turns of saddle hackle forward to end of chenille and tie off. 4.Tie in soft webby saddle hackle and take 4-5 turns folding the hackle fibers to the rear with each turn. Tie off and trim. 5.Build up head of black thread, whip finish , and cement. |
