Tying Instructions 1.Attach a bundle of Moose Mane (15-20 fibers) at hook bend. Tie in a stiff black saddle hackle. 2.Return thread to front of hook and tie in another bundle of Moose Mane for the wing. Cock it forward at 45 degrees and saturate with head cement or a light application of super glue. This will keep the wing at an angle in the current and not allow it to bend back thus spoiling the waking effect caused by this fly. After the glue has dried, cover both wing and tail with scotch tape to protect them while you clip the deer hair. 3.Spin deer hair and using a hair packer pack the first bundle tight. Continue spinning and packing until you've covered about 2/3 of the hook shank. Experiment with different colored deer hair. Orange, black, white and purple are my favorites and in that order. 4.Clip the deer hair to the shape shown in the picture. 5.Palmer the hackle forward 3 or 4 turns tie off, whip finish, and cement Uses: Method: These only work on a dry line in the summer when water temps are above 54 degrees and the steelheads metabolism is at its peak. |
